What to look for in pin bindings
If you’re in the market for a new pair of pin bindings, whether your first or your tenth, you might be trying to figure out what to look for in your new pin bindings.
Here’s my grid.
First, do you need them for the resort as well as the backcountry? Pin bindings are much lighter than alpine bindings, but not all pin bindings are the same. Some, such as Dynafits, are much lighter and really meant for the uphill (and aggressive uphill at that), while others like the Ion or the Helio are a bit tougher and stand up well to resorts as well.
Second, do they fit your boots? Some boots, like the Hoji Pro, lack a front lip which means they won’t fit bindings like the Salomon Shift.
Third, how heavy are they? Depending on your skiing and fitness, you’re going to want to go lighter or heavier based on your size and what you’re using them for.
